- Land
The overland transportation is really limited. This is because of the condition of the land which is covered by forest and water. Therefore, transportation over land can generally be found only in towns. But nowadays the Government has planned to build "By Pass Street" crosses the whole island of Kalimantan that connects every province.
- River
Generally water or river transportation is still important this time as a Supra Structure especially to reach the inland area either for passengers or goods. The water or river transportation such as Long Boat, Speed Boat, Motor Boat and are always used.
- Sea
The Semayang Harbour in Balikpapan is a gateway of the Southern part, while the harbour of Tarakan is the Northern Gate.Several kinds of commuter boat and ship come from all over the archipelago like : KM. Kambuna, KM. Kerinci, KM. Awu etc.
- Air
The Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan is the second busiest airport in Indonesia and is the gateway to East Kalimantan, landed by several aircrafs like : Garuda Indonesia Airways, Sempati Air, Merpati Airlines, Bouraq Airlines. Remembering tha East Kalimantan covered by water and forest, some pioner airstrips are built in inland area by means of making easier communication such as in Long Bawan, Long Apung, Datah Dawai, Tabang.
